Welcome to the City of Ingleside GIS Website
"GIS is a technology that is used to view and analyze data from a geographic perspective. The technology is a piece of an organization's overall information system framework. GIS links location to information (such as people to addresses, buildings to parcels, or streets within a network) and layers that information to give you a better understanding of how it all interrelates. You choose what layers to combine based on your purpose." - ESRI
The City's GIS Department is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and managing a computer based mapping and information system. The department also manages the flow and dissemination of all cartographic information, existing maps, and databases. The stored information is used to create, display, and analyze a substantial amount of data (zoning, utilities, infrastructure, water resources, topography, aerial imagery) for critical decision making.GIS data is stored in the form of layers, or collections of geographic objects that are alike. These layers are added together to create images which can be used to answer questions or solve problems. |
