ED 101 Ingleside Development Corporation Successes & Highlights

The City of Ingleside is pleased to be the home of some extraordinary business success stories

Kiewit Offshore Services, our largest employer, continues to hire when others are struggling in our present economy. Kiewit is located on the La Quinta Ship Channel. Kiewit has the proud bragging rights of having the world’s largest onshore lifting device which has lifted the largest drill rig ever built to date, known as ThunderHorse. Business is brisk at Kiewit who has projects booked into the next several years. The company’s excellence in fabrication of offshore drilling rigs, bridges, structures, and more is world recognized. Kiewit employs thousands of workers from professional engineers to craftsmen. Subcontractors that work onsite are also considerable. Ingleside is proud to have been instrumental in bringing Kiewit to our location through the use of incentives and abatements, and we continue to have an awesome partnership, years later.

Helix Energy Solutions, one of our most innovative companies, came to us in late 2007 seeking the opportunity to build a pipe-spooling facility on the La Quinta Ship Channel. The process involves the fabrication and connection of pipe, laid end to end, over a mile long stretch of land. A huge ship, known as a “spooler” winds the pipe onto it’s giant spool and transports the pipe deep into the ocean to be laid on the ocean floor forming a new pipeline facility. The City rolled up it’s sleeves and partnered with the State of Texas to assist in the procurement of a Texas Capital Fund Grant that assisted Helix with it’s infrastructural build-out. We continued to help by putting Helix in touch with other existing properties and partners and the result has been a synergy that has been a win-win for all parties. Helix facility has been built in record time, with the securing of permitting and other vital legalities having been worked aggressively by the City and it’s resources.

The Port of Corpus Christi works closely with the City of Ingleside on many initiatives, not the least of which is the redevelopment of what is soon to be the former Naval Station Ingleside facility. This 1000 acre property is slated to be redeveloped into a diversified project that will more than replace the jobs lost by the closure of the military base.

Texas A & M Technology Commercialization Department has been chosen by the Port as the master developer for the redevelopment of Naval Station Ingleside. TAMU has been very inclusive with the City in it’s efforts to bring new business enterprises and technology providers to what will be an amazing complex when completed. TAMU will have a permanent presence on the property, bringing amazing intellectual capital and new technologies to Ingleside.

Live Oak Preserve is a master planned golf community slated for creation just across the road from the Port’s new development area. This 2,360 unit residential complex will feature a PGA approved golf course designed by world class designer Bobby Weed, and will feature a town center of upscale retail, and urban living models. This project, scheduled to be $90 million dollars at completion, chose Ingleside for it’s unspoiled proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and it’s friendly people and quality of place and life. Leon Heron, the projects developer, has worked closely with the City through the creation of a Tax Increment Finance Zone or TIRZ, a funding vehicle that will prove a win-win for both entities. The City looks forward to the groundbreaking of this extraordinary development.
