Ingleside Animal Control staff have been able to save three cats and 20 dogs, all within two weeks’ time after they learned they would no longer occupy the animal shelter at 2322 Morgan Lane, Ingleside.

This could not have been accomplished without the countless hours networking with rescue groups and foster organizations, coupled with the copious amounts of inquiries and visits to the shelter from local residents and those throughout the Coastal Bend region and beyond. All three shelter staff members went into immediate action July 17 when they received the word that property rental agreement negotiations between the city and property owner fell through. Because of their valiant efforts and the entire community’s support, all 23 animals have newfound freedom.

The shelter staff, which operates under the auspices of the Ingleside Police Department, as well as all IPD counterparts and other City of Ingleside departments, would like to extend thanks, appreciation, and gratitude for all those who have banned together to make these efforts possible.

Our work, however, is not done. Our two animal control officers continue to receive calls and make their routine rounds. We have cleaned and emptied the shelter and now we await our new-to-us temporary location. The move to 1596 SH 361 will take some time, and we ask for patience and understanding through our transitional period.

It is our hope that with the community and City Council’s support that our dreams of a brand-new shelter will become a reality soon.
